Midnight in Paris is an American 2011 romantic comedy
fantasy film written and directed by Woody Allen. It is one of the most
significant movie of this century. Not only because this is my personal opinion
but also it has won both the Academy Award for best screenplay and the Golden
Globe Awards for best screenplay. Moreover, the film was nominated for three
other Academy Awards: Best Picture, Best Director and Best Art Direction. Midnight in Paris makes the audience jump into
a different reality. This movie is created to engage the audience with the
different cultural differences and also to show how magical can be the capital
of France. Not accidentally Woody Allen, the director of the movie, has started
his masterpiece with different sights of the city.
Paris is represented successfully from the director. The introduction
of the movie represents the city as a magical, romantic, historical and
peaceful place to live. The audience can see how variable is the weather in Paris. It also shows how busy is the city.
The viewers can see how a different kind of shots of the city Woody Allen has taken
in the introduction of the movie so that he could gain a deeper mood.
Furthermore, the audience can notice that the director has successfully managed
to represent different monuments of the city for only few minutes. A genius
director like him sought to engage the audience with the location, so that they
could see how the city changes when the main character flies back in time.
This movie is
concentrated to attract more adult audience rather than young one. Woody Allen
is really difficult to understand that is why people like him. His philosophy
of life is more diverse than ours. He sees the word from different angle. Woody
Allen provides the audience with so much information in this particular movie
because they can learn so many things about Paris from 1950 to now days just
for 2 hours. People who like adventurous and romantic movies will be satisfied by
the content of the film.
Midnight in Paris is produced by Spanish group Mediapro and
Allen's Gravier Productions. Furthermore, the movie is distributed by Sony
Pictures Classics. The budget of the film was 17 million dollars and the profit
was 151,119,219 dollars which proves that the movie somehow affect the audience and they liked it.
Overall, the movie has lots of different shots which contribute
to the attitude of the audiences. Moreover, the director successfully presents
Paris as a magical and cultural place to the audience by showing different
images of the city. In Claude Levi- Strauss theory, the audience can see how
the director concentrates in the constant change of the weather: from sunny to
rainy and cold. By this way, the director is showing how despite the bad
weather the city stays alive.
